Finnish think-tank Sitra finds wind power as future of electricity

A new report published by the Finnish think-tank and future fund Sitra sees energy consumption doubling over the next 30 years, yet a path towards carbon-neutrality remains open. In moving to rid the country’s energy production of fossil-based sources while, simultaneously, meeting the increasing demand for energy, Sitra’s report sees wind power as the most viable and cost-efficient solution.

Yet, the report warns, the construction of new wind farms is not, alone, enough. The fluctuations in wind energy production make storage and transfer capability as crucial as its production, meaning a significant need for the development of storage solutions, either in traditional, battery form or using hydrogen as a means of storing the electricity in gaseous form.
