G7 to form Climate Club network to support action

The G7, at its concluded three-day summit, agreed to set into practice a proposal made by the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz which would see the formation of an international network to support countries as they work towards ambitious climate goals. The network to be launched by the end of the year will be open to applicants from the G20 and beyond, however, membership is contingent upon the applicant’s climate measures being deemed sincere and ambitious. Alongside networking, connecting best practices, and shaping climate agendas, club hopes to establish a common understanding of climate measures and their effectiveness to allow for multiple, yet equal, approaches.
